“I noticed quite quickly that people genuinely want to help each other here, even across different teams. It was not one big moment in particular, but lots of small interactions that made me think, ‘this is a really nice group of people to work with’. I think those small moments often tell you more about a workplace than the big ones do.“

Could you share some insights into your background and how you came to join FLAG?
Before joining FLAG, I worked across events, marketing, sales enablement and business operations, with most of my experience in events and marketing at Telstra and Salesforce.
I came across the opportunity at FLAG when I was looking for a change and a new challenge, and it felt like a really good fit. I liked that FLAG is a smaller company, while still being very well respected within the industry and having such a long history. Since joining, I’ve had the chance to work on a much broader range of things than I expected, which has been a great part of the experience.
What motivates you in your role at FLAG, and how do you maintain your inspiration?
I like working on projects where you can really see the impact, especially in marketing where you can take an idea and see how it shapes the way the business is presented, understood or experienced. I really enjoy working with other people, hearing different perspectives and learning how people approach things. I also just really like my job!
In terms of staying inspired, I’m naturally quite curious, and there is always a lot happening at FLAG. There always seems to be something new to learn, work on or get involved in, which keeps things interesting.
Is there a specific project or achievement at FLAG that you are particularly proud of?
I’m thrilled that I got to be part of the rebrand from GCX back to FLAG last April. It was one of those projects that touched every part of the business and every employee, and was also big news across the industry. It was incredibly satisfying to see it all come together successfully!
There were definitely a few moments where we had to rethink things or work through challenges, but I think that made the end result even stronger.
Who has had the biggest impact on your journey at FLAG, and how have they influenced you?
FLAG is full of talented and helpful people, so it is hard to pick just one!
My manager, Nadya Melic, has been the biggest influence on me, particularly when it comes to product management. She gives our team a lot of trust and transparency, while always being available when we need advice.
We also have a fantastic Product and Marketing team. Neha Deradi and Jaskaran Singh have been instrumental in helping me build my product knowledge, and I really enjoy working closely with Gianella Parodi and Pragathi Mahale across our wider marketing projects.
Outside of our team, Shalabh Dayal, Nasreen Ahmed and Vineet Verma, to name just a few, have also been incredibly supportive and generous with their knowledge.
How has your role evolved since joining FLAG, and what are you currently learning or trying to improve?
My role spans both marketing and product management. In marketing, I work across areas including brand, content, product marketing and communications. On the product side, I support a range of work across product updates, priorities, stakeholder input and cross functional projects.
I’m also involved in supporting some of the new investments FLAG is making across the network, which has given me great exposure to how those projects come together and the different teams involved.
Product management has been a big learning curve, but one I’m finding very rewarding.
At the moment, I’m focused on deepening my technical knowledge and building a stronger understanding of the products I work with, as well as the wider subsea industry.
What advice would you offer to new employees or those striving to excel in their careers at FLAG?
Ask questions, get to know people outside your immediate team and take the time to understand how the different parts of the business connect. You don’t need to have everything figured out straight away.
Get involved in projects outside your usual day to day work when you can, and use them as an opportunity to learn more about the business, the industry and the people you work with.
What’s a small moment at FLAG that made a big impression on you?
There have been quite a few, but one thing that really stood out to me early on was how kind and supportive people are across the company.
Coming from larger organisations, I noticed quite quickly that people genuinely want to help each other here, even across different teams. It was not one big moment in particular, but lots of small interactions that made me think, ‘this is a really nice group of people to work with’. I think those small moments often tell you more about a workplace than the big ones do.
