Employee Spotlight: Chihiro Niikura – Director, FLAG Japan

Could you share some insights into your background and how you came to join FLAG?

FLAG was my first move into the world of Telecom, and I’ve now been with FLAG for over 20 years. Over the 20 year period I’ve had the opportunity to try my hand at a variety of roles and overcome some challenges in Japan office. I’m thrilled to be a part of this global company!

What motivates you in your role at FLAG, and how do you maintain your inspiration?

What motivates me is understanding customer needs, matching them with the right products or services to improve their connectivity, and building strong relationships over time.  Seeing the positive impact of our efforts contributing to customer satisfaction and FLAG’s success keep me inspired.  

Is there a specific project or achievement at FLAG that you are particularly proud of?

FLAG is a well-organised company that is more than happy to go the extra mile to support customers with their specific requirements. Once the decision is made, it’s time for all teams to pull together and give it their all to reach the goal as fast as they can! I am so proud of our teamwork on every project!

How do you approach challenges and overcome obstacles in your work?

In our work, we are constantly facing different opportunities from our customers and internal teams. Team conversations are vital. They are the key to designing customised solutions and managing service delivery to meet customer targets. Continuously learning new things from work and internal strong support are great ways to overcome different kinds of situations I might have.

What role do your colleagues and team members play in your success at FLAG?

We are working closely with our product, technical consultants, pricing, procurement, provisioning, and operation teams. By working together, we can make sure we’re always meeting and often exceeding our customers’ expectations.  I’m so excited to be working with all teams even though we’re in different countries, the distance just doesn’t matter! We are ONE TEAM! 

Are there any mentors or individuals who have had a significant impact on your career here?

It’s difficult to mention an individual’s name. Over the past 20 years, my mentors have been there for me every step of the way, celebrating every small success with me.

How has your role evolved since joining FLAG, and how have you grown as a professional?

I’ve had the incredible opportunity to explore various roles in FLAG, from finance to administration to global sales support. Now I’m more focused on sales and carrier relationships in Japan. FLAG provides chances to develop our careers and to face any changes with confidence. I truly believe this is the result of the company’s culture of respect and appreciation for the employees.

What advice would you offer to new employees or those striving to excel in their careers at FLAG?

FLAG is a great place to maintain a great work life balance, and for anyone looking for a new challenge in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
